Equipment

  • 1 Blender
  • 1 Ice cream scoop
  • 1 Serving glass, chilled

Ingredients

  • 1.5 - 2 cups generous scoops High-Quality Vanilla Bean Ice Cream softened for 10-15 minutes
  • ¼ cup Whole Milk start with this amount, add more only if needed
  • 2-3 tablespoons Chocolate Syrup or Fudge Sauce high-quality recommended

Optional:

  • ½ teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract to boost the vanilla flavor
  • 1 Tiny pinch salt to enhance flavors

For Garnish:

  • Whipped Cream
  • Extra Chocolate Syrup

Instructions

  • Prep Your Station: Place your serving glass in the freezer to chill. Let your ice cream sit on the counter for 10-15 minutes until it's pliable but not melted. If desired, drizzle some chocolate syrup down the inside of your chilled glass.
  • Combine in Blender: Pour the ¼ cup of whole milk into your blender first. Add the chocolate syrup, vanilla extract, and pinch of salt (if using). Finally, add your scoops of softened vanilla ice cream.
  • Blend Briefly: Secure the blender lid. Start on a low speed, then immediately increase to a medium-high speed. Blend for just 30-45 seconds. You want the shake to be thick and just combined, not thin and frothy.
  • Check Consistency: The shake should be very thick. If your blender is struggling, add one more tablespoon of milk and pulse once or twice to combine.
  • Serve Immediately: Pour the milkshake into your prepared chilled glass. Top with a generous swirl of whipped cream and an extra drizzle of chocolate syrup. Enjoy right away with a wide straw.

Notes

Quick Tips for Success
  • Vanilla Ice Cream is Key: This is what makes it a "Black and White" and not just a chocolate shake. Use the best you can find.
  • Soften the Ice Cream: This is the #1 tip for a creamy texture without adding too much milk.
  • Don't Over-Blend: A quick blend keeps it thick and frosty.
  • Chill Everything: A cold glass and cold ingredients make for a better milkshake experience.
